Hi , im thinking of collecting Steiff bears and im wondering if there are any great websites for information and purchasing a bear etc

steiffgal is the number one authority on Steiff writing on the web. Check out her blog My Steiff Life is full of history and information. I supply news and info about Steiff in the UK on my Facebook page SteiffUK. My shop sells a selection of Steiff teddies but I have to admit nothing like the range you’ll find at World of Bears or the family business Ashby Bears

Our baby threw up on her steiff Bear. After washing it, it still smells like vomit. Any advice? Thanks!
Thanks for all the advice. However, the instruction tag on the bear clearly states that it cannot be machine-washed. Also, buying a new one is not an option at the moment as Steiff is a bit expensive.

spray it down with fabrize and use 2x consentrated wash after then fabreeze it again…

Any ideas of what merchandise a Cathedral Charity can sell?

So far we sell:

A book called "A day in the life of Canterbury Cathedral"

At the risk of being a bit old fashioned I suggest you offer a range of ‘embossed’ or ‘gold lettered’ Cathedral personalised items such as Bibles, Prayer Books & Song Books & CD’s / DVD’s of Organ Music & Classical religious recitals that have been performed at the Cathedral in recent years ..

In fact, I bet there is a whole library of books you could offer about the Cathedral (it’s History etc)..

For some idea’s why not visit the ‘gift shops’ of other cathedrals in UK & see what quality / relevant goods are on offer ? (but please avoid the useless tourist tat such as glass dolphins and those overpriced boxes of fudge I’ve seen on offer at for too many places)

Is there such a thing as a Steiff annual fair? I collect these teddy bears and I’ve heard that there is an annual event but I can’t find any evidence of it. Does anyone know anything?

My Auntie has a Green steiff Hippopotamus, that I’ve searched a while for on the internet, for a value or any info, but no luck. I’ve seen beige ones, like on Ebay for around £40.00, but none even on the Steiff website. Any info/values/websites would be very helpful. Many thanks.

I found a similar green hippo that was made in 1983 and also retired in 1983, but it seems to only be in Germany.

You don’t say where you live but if you take the hippo to a good auction house (like Christies) they will be able to give you more info and a free evaluation. It’s best to call them beforehand so that you know when the right expert is there! The fact that there’s no mention of a green one anywhere might mean he’s quite valuable !!!
