Your Childhood Toys Make You Who Your Are

Plush Toys No Comments »

You can probably remember your favorite toy when you were a child. Most often this is the one you couldn’t leave the house without and had pride of place on your bed. Maybe without even knowing it, you probably had a type of toy that you played with most, be it balls or building block or perhaps it was toy cooking apparatus. New findings from the London institute of Psychology have shown that they toys we play with when we are younger have a massive impact on us as adults. Here are the 3 main findings the study showed.

1. Those children who were encouraged to play with educational toys didn’t become more intelligent, but were more analytical in their approach to problems in later life. The research showed that learning toys promoted patience and taught people to break down a problem into its simplest parts in order to overcome tasks

2. People who often played with dolls or toys that toys that had human qualities, developed better communication and interaction skills in later life. It is thought that by having a face that children could talk to whenever they wanted encouraged them to vocalise their thoughts and share their problems with their toys.

3. Probably the most interesting finding from the research was that children who always had access to toys wherever they were, not only had more confidence in later life but had better earnings. This means if children played with bath toys, took toys out and about with them and had access to toys at friends houses etc, they became more successful in later life.

There is of course the argument of unknown cause and effect which could undermine this research potentially. What is meant by this is do children become influenced by the toys they play with or do they pick certain toys because of the type of people they already are? Most experts tend to think that its a bit of both, which means that the study still provides some valid findings.

Safety First, Avoid Recalls

Plush Toys No Comments »

When shopping for children’s toys, you should to know which toys are safe to purchase for your kids and which ones are not safe. Many toys on the shelves have been recalled but the stores continue to shelf them. If you have not kept up with the news and the toy recall list, then you could buy some nice toys that your children will love to play with but they might contain some toxic, harmful materials. You need to be very careful when buying toddlers toys or anything for babies in particular because even a tiny amount of toxic substance present in toys can hurt them.

It is sad that toxic toys are still sold in stores across the country, despite laws that are put in place to protect kids from toxic toys. Toy safety is an important issue that parents are always worried about. Although most toys on store shelves are considered safe, there continues to be various toys that pose some safety hazards to small kids. With that fact in mind, parents and child care providers need to exercise care in order to prevent toy-related deaths and injuries. With more tests and more scientific discoveries, the scope of unsafe toys has been widened to include toys that were thought to be safe such as those labeled as phthalate-free. It is true that even some products labeled phthalate-free may contain the dangerous chemical.

Although toy manufacturers should act fast to recall unsafe products and give parents the necessary information they need so that they can purchase toys that are safe for their kids, some of them don’t. You will no doubt have heard of many toy recalls on TV but there are plenty more toy recalls that are not published. Therefore, parents may not be aware that they are unsafe to use or buy. The Consumer Product Safety Commission, the agency whose goal is to keep toys and other products safe, have released alerts and information on toy safety but there are still tons of manufacturers that ignoring warnings and still sell toys laden with toxic substances. The Consumer Product Safety Commission cannot do much about existing toys that are already out on the shelves.

If you think you have a toxic, toxic and dangerous toy or any product that is unsafe, you should report the incident to the CPSC by calling a toll-free Consumer Hotline at 800-638-2772 (TTY 800-638-8270).
